For Memorial Day, in remembrance of all of those who have gone ahead, my mind is drawn to bigger pictures.

I honor the veterans who have lost their lives protecting our countries, and serving in our wars. But, I don’t believe war, with its outcome being mass destruction of our youngest and most impassioned, is the answer to our dilemma.

I believe in life. In humanity. In the future of mankind as caretakers of Earth.

We are a species. With cultural and evolutionary differences. We are all important in the bigger picture. As a species, we should be working to protect our diversity, not diminish it. Our differences are what will continue our legacy.

We should care about our diversity. Precisely as we care for various species of fish, birds, trees, or any mammal on the planet. For all other species, we actively work to protect those differences. Each has its own role to play in our story.

The evolution of our humanity is at stake.

So, stop the fighting. The oppression. The racism. The wars.

We are one.

We need each other. We need our diversity in order for our humanity to survive on this planet for generations and generations to come. If we narrow our species to a single mold, our chances of survival will slim accordingly. We need our differences to help us adapt to changes in our environment. It’s simple science.

Seriously, people.

There are already cultures and races nearly pushed to extinction. No race, color, or culture being on an endangered species list is going to benefit humanity.

So, in honor of Memorial Day, I will be grateful for all of those who have gone ahead. Not merely those who have died in service, but also remembering those who have lived and died gracefully. With honor, openness, and the wisdom to know love for our fellow mankind, IS the answer.

Because we haven’t made a National Holiday for those folks.

Remembering all.
